2003 Upper Bull Creek

Bull Creek flows in northwest Austin and northwest Travis County, Texas. It is known as the "Galapagos of Texas," and supports a wide range of wildlife including golden-cheeked warblers and bobcats. The creek drains into Lake Austin, a reservoir of the lower Colorado River. For much of its length, the city maintains a greenbelt and parkland, including a hiking trail and a couple of parks. These photos were taken in St. Edward's Park, upper Bull Creek, in January, 2003.

A hiking trail on the east side of the creek in St. Edward's Park.
Bull creek has many moss- and fern-covered limestone cliffs. You can see splashing in the water at the base of the cliff - water is seeping out of the limestone in many, many places.
Ken and Jen, on the main greenbelt trail.
A clump of cactus in an old grassland meadow. There are a lot of cedar trees in St. Edward's Park.
A shallows in the creek. You could cross here and get only moderately wet. There is a trail on the far bank.
Some deciduous trees catching the last rays of the afternoon winter sunset.
Some rapids in the creek.
The woods of St. Edward's Park in winter.
A scenic overlook on a side trail that follows the cliffs above Bull Creek. The meadow in the middle of the photo is where Jen and I were photographed earlier.
